Choi Lai Yoke (Lai)
Founder Kharrumeng Wellness
Born of Chinese and Indian parents, "Kharrumeng" is named after my Indian and Chinese heritage.
Growing up at an early age with my late grandfather Karupiah I learned values and my late father Choi Chong Ming about holistic living and “Carpe diem” seizing the life. As an acknowledgement and honour to them, I named the company Kharrumeng Wellness.

So how did Kharrumeng Wellness come to be? Well,a little flashback
At the age of three, I survived a horrific accident that left its imprint on my forehead with 47 stitches on me. This incident did not stop me from my dream of becoming an actress. I became an actress on stage, on TV and in local movies.
Throughout this journey, holistic and alternative wellness practices were a part of family life.

In 2012, I developed severe back pain due to bad posture and a deep arch on my lower back, the tension in the body constantly leads to holding my breath, which is also the effect of smoking. I was also not able to sit in an easy pose (which is close to my heart) due to the strain and tightness on my hips,
I suffered from sleeplessness and constant pain. I became a different person; moody, grumpy, angry. I went for many treatments and spent thousands of ringgits. I was also quite adamant about going for surgery because deep down my gut feeling, I know it's possible to recover holistically. Many of the treatment just gives me temporary relief for my current issues. Finally, a helpful chiropractor doctor recommended yoga. On the very next day, without hesitation and desperation, I enrolled myself on yoga classes.
At that point, all I wanted was to heal. I did not know much about yoga. I was shocked to find that there was more to yoga than “just” bending and stretching, it transformed my life. During my yoga practice, I noticed changes in my body. Within six months, my back issue healed and even able to sit in an easy pose, which was a huge transition.
I decided to take an instructor's course to help others, and that is when I decided that the universal has redirected me, and I want to help others to heal holistically.

After a few year…………….

“Yoga brought joy to my life. I slept better and could breathe properly. It improved my physical and mental well-being, but most importantly, it has enabled me to have a better and healthy relationship.”
As I was discovering yoga, I came across Ayurveda. In the same year, I became a qualified Yoga Instructor and a practitioner of Ayurvedic wellness. This led directly to my second rejuvenation.

Working in the entertainment industry, I have learned to keep up with certain appearances, images, and habits. Keeping my hair looking young was one of them and smoking was another. I secretly suffered from an extreme allergic reaction to hair dyes. Hair dyes would trigger an allergic reaction. The last time I used a hair dye, I was rushed to the hospital by an ambulance. I was advised not to colour my hair, and if I did, I could die. There is not a high demand for grey-haired actresses in the local industry. I was devastated.
Luckily, yoga helped me to let go and embrace my newfound balance and new knowledge of Ayurveda. I learned to accept my natural hair colour and wear it with pride. I was able to quit my smoking habit in the process!
This transformation in my life gave me a newfound sense of direction and purpose. Ayurveda deepened my knowledge of the body, food, herbs, and plants and allowed me to live a life free of harmful chemicals.
With so much going on in my childhood trauma, abuse, and self-harm I realised I had been molested and sexually molested which led to toxic family and relationships. Since I lost my late husband at the age of 24 with a son.
Growing up feeling that I was not good enough, people please, I strongly believe working and investing is the best gift for yourself.
Despite everything I never give up on myself attending courses, training, seminars, and various workshops to work on myself.
I'm blessed and grateful I met teachers, gurus, yogis and beautiful souls. I believe everyone deserves to be loved and it starts with you, and how important is to take care of myself and take time to heal and progress in life.

Growing up being part of my family and missing my childhood created a lot of tension, self-hatred, self-abuse, and traumas. This made me realise how important it is to take care of myself, be truthful to myself without owing any explanation, able to stand strong even though standing alone.
Today, I manifest my purpose in life by focusing on healing those who choose to heal, and self-love for those who want to focus on themselves. I help my clients manage their stress, build trust, increase productivity, and live a harmonious, loving, and peaceful life with their loved ones and family at home or work, by handcraft personalised yoga according to the Dosha (body constitution) and Ayurvedic for balanced well-being.
I strongly believe food is medicine, not the other way around. A holistic way of living helps you to listen, and understand your body on a deeper level.
I have since returned to acting with people who accept my appearance and hire me for who I am. I have recently appeared in a few BBC TV series programs, hosting a holistic cooking programme and even clothing modelling
